Rich Man, Poor Town
This is a "3 in 1", the main picture is from Rosia Montana, a very old town from Romania (over 2000 years old), a sky shot from Canada, and the car, of course, from the annual Woodward Dream Cruise!
Why that little old town looks that bad? The answer is simple: Gold's fault. That area is rich in gold, and the smell of gold attracted a canadian company to invest, but totally different. They were trying to buy the entire town, then the plan was to erase every single building, then start the extraction right from the surface. But they didn't make it yet. Most of the home owners happily sold their homes for huge prices offered by the buyer (about 3 times more than its real value), but some didn't sell. They just refused to leave their hometown. And thank God, the govmt didn't approve the Gold Corp. plan to extract from the surface, an action that saved this historical town, at least for the moment. Very nice work! Love the colors here!
ReplyDeleteIt seems so typical that companies (whether their business is gold or not) could be interested in erasing a town with 2000 years of history behind it, all because of...well...gold. OK...gold is valuable and I'd love a huge hunk of it to sell...but still...
ReplyDeleteThis image is fantastic in that it encapsulates so much! The fact that it's a composite is stunning, you've woven the whole thing together, seamlessly, and it works perfectly. The colors are astounding and rich, and I love the whole contrast of the aged and crumbling buildings and the rich man's well maintained, bright blue car...oh what a commentary this offers! It's brilliant and an important piece of art. Great work!
excellent manipulation and the building certainly shows it's age but still is beautiful architecture
ReplyDeleteAgain a good picture
ReplyDeleteerland
WOW I love it.
ReplyDeleteHelluva a compilation of images, Outstanding composition and Blend work.
ReplyDelete**Peace**
Nice, and hope they'll save the town. The road though looks with a downwards inclination that the car doesn't seem to follow ...
ReplyDeleteVery nice scene and post work! Well done.
ReplyDeleteNice composite image, very well done, and I like the title.
ReplyDeleteInteresting info and very well put together !
ReplyDeleteI love that building..Excellent manipulation well done
ReplyDeleteInteresting color photo!
ReplyDeleteIn some ways destroying a historic town is no different than hanging an old outlaw. That looks like a Clenet, the car, made in Santa Barbara a while ago. I saw one in a gas station maybe 15 or so years ago. The color was pink and the paint was cracking. Doesn't look like the Excaliber I saw in a Dr.'s parking spot about 1981. It was white. So it's the color that says Clenet. Walk through that town. Listen to the whispering and pointing of fingers. Hear the slamming of doors and twisting of locks. Sin has a signature. The look of human habitation.
ReplyDeleteSplendid composition and colors my friend!
ReplyDeleteWonderful information and beautiful work on the blending of images. Excellent!

ReplyDeleteVery excellent work; I love the old building, it's got so much beauty. Well done!
ReplyDeleteGreat image Eddie. That darn Gold Corp is attempting to do the same thing here in Northwestern Ontario. They want to dig up the surface gold and destroy a whole town. They are at present test drilling to see if it is viable. I sure hope not as it will be an enviromental disaster for us up here. This company is monopolizing all the gold reserves around here and if this happens "God help us." Great pic.
ReplyDeleteAwesome capture..you did a very good
ReplyDeletework here! Thanks for the info :)
very interesting story and great shot. Thanks for sharing !
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteWonderful blending of images. I hope they save the town. Amazing how companies think they can just come in and buy everyone.
ReplyDeleteSuperb idea !
ReplyDeleteAn incredible capture of detail, scene and subject! I'm amazed at how people are willing to erase and wipe off so many years of history.. it comes down to the issue of whether or not "new" is necessarily better. Sometimes I wonder whether "progress" is in fact, what it means to be, regardless of the intentions. I think it's wonderful though, the way you've ironically juxtaposed the two conepts of the new and the old.... and outlined the division clearly between the rich and poor. Yet, in spite of the way the "rich" vehicle looks next to this half torn down home; or what remains of it...... both are still in a sense "old"... got me thinking a bit here. Beautifully executed, and an inspiring subject matter!
ReplyDeleteGreat work!!!
ReplyDeleteI am loving it all. Thank you.

ReplyDeleteGreat work!
ReplyDeleteGreat work and composition, the result is amazing,Beautiful!!:-)
ReplyDeleteAs a Canadian I have to say that our mining and other extraction companies pull some moves abroad that wouldn't be acceptable here in Canada itself, which is both ironic and sad. I'm glad some people stood their ground, and I'd rather see that old town stay than get a few more bars of gold out of the ground.
ReplyDeleteVery cool architecture! It would look awesome all fixed up! Fantastic work! (:

Great montage and a really great, but not totally unfamiliar story. Greed and Big Money!!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful compilation, made so much more impressive by your commentary on the image and the circumstances behind it. Such a shame to see a historic town die in this way.
